VTM - Crashing on WMV files (Vista32b)

Just downloaded VTM (version 3.0.0.2) tonight. Getting a hang of it and created a few files for my own archives. When I get to a few certain WMV files, the program crashes upon clicking, "START" to a Windows dump.

Event Viewer Information : "Faulting application VideoThumbnailsMaker.exe, version 3.0.0.2, time stamp 0x4b5643ac, faulting module libmplayer.dll, version 0.0.0.0, time stamp 0x4b1a8674, exception code 0xc0000005, fault offset 0x000049df, process id 0xb68, application start time 0x01ca9b13e35e44d9"

Diag.log Information : "10:35:05 PM Process started." (that's it - nothing else in that file or the diag_bak.log file).

Just throwing this out there as I haven't seen any other thread on this specific error.

[EDIT]
Forgot to mention - this is happening on about half the WMV files - some work, others don't. I really don't see any differences in the files. All created the same way and from the same location.

VTM version 3.0.0.2
Windows Vista (32bit)
4gig Memory
Quad-Core CPU
Dual- Geforce 8800GTX's (tried in both SLI and non-SLI for kicks)

That crash happenes in libmplayer.dll.
libmplayer.dll is not a part of my application so i can do nothing with it.
It is not trouble of VTM. You system gives my application that DLL for VTM's request.

My advice is to use another codec pack the lates version of the codecs.

I want to confirm a similar behaviour with V3.0.0.2 and WinXP SP3.
Dia.log is empty beside: "Process started".
Happens with some wmv files as well as MP4s.
=> Program needs to be terminated. Message to Microsoft:
Event log entry:
EventType : clr20r3 P1 : videothumbnailsmaker.exe P2 : 3.0.0.2
P3 : 4b5643ac P4 : mscorlib P5 : 2.0.0.0 P6 : 4a7cd8f7 P7 : 31ce
P8 : 21 P9 : system.nullreferenceexception
When finished, closes down.

Tryed older Version 2.1.0.6: does not crash.

UPDATE (24.01.2010)
After I activated VTM and I´m using "extreme" Video rendering it´s much better.
Only remaining issue:
After a certain number of files, VTM stops producing thumbnails. (fail)
Sometimes it starts to eat memory without proceeding. (Keeps stuck to one file)
In the log it starts with:
"DXPlay function failed" (noticed: usually with wmv files), then
"RenderImage function failed".
After some of these messages in log, it stucks or stops completely to render images.
(All files from then on are "fails")
Then close VTM and open again.
Load the not processed files and it works.

See also forum entry: "Video files failing on first attempt"
which describes a similar behaviour.

Additional Information:
It seems as if VTM does eat up a little bit of memory each time a Thumbnail is
created, which it does not release.
After memory consumption has reached a certain level, VTM crashes.

Best regards

EMI

OK, will try. Unfortunatelly it will take until weekend. No time before.

Added (2010-01-31, 12:05 Pm)
---------------------------------------------
Well:
First uninstalled everything that may be related to codecs.
Super, VLC, FFDshow.
Then installed CCCP.
Maybe a little bit better than before, but still far away from reliable.
Uninstalled CCCP, installed actual FFDshow tryout version 3233.

So far best results.
In FFDshow Configuration I had to activate all RealVideo formats in
the Configuration page to be able to work with RMVB files.

Still eating memory. Tried with a set of 20 known working files, which I copied 20 times.
Eats up to 2GB (mybe just 1,5GB excluding windows), then stops producing thumbnails.
(PC has 4 GB, which means 3 GB availiable).

When trying to "Clean All", program crashes with Windows Error Notification:
EventType : clr20r3 P1 : videothumbnailsmaker.exe P2 : 3.0.0.2
P3 : 4b5643ac P4 : mscorlib P5 : 2.0.0.0 P6 : 4a7cd8f7 P7 : 170c
P8 : 22 P9 : system.invalidoperationexception

And Diag.Log:
For some files:
RenderImage function failed, [M:\****]
20:14:11
DxPlay function failed, [M:\****]
20:14:11
->3<-, bei DirectShowLib.DsError.ThrowExceptionForHR(Int32 hr)
bei x.a(ISampleGrabber A_0)
bei x.a(Control A_0, String A_1)
bei x..ctor(Control A_0, String A_1)
bei l.h()
For the others for example:
20:14:11
RenderImage function failed, [M:\AAAA]
20:14:12
RenderImage function failed, [M:\BBBB]
20:14:12
RenderImage function failed, [M:\CCCC]

Best regards

Removed all codecs or codec packs I could find.
Installed K-Lite Codec Pack. So far best results until now.

Still eating memory.

Try to check on "Memory economy mode" in the Environment window.

OK:

Tried "Memory Economic Mode".
Best so far.
No memory overflow or stop of thumbnail production.
Changed to K-Lite Codecs.
So far, it works fine.
